MARTIN MARGIELA: NOT AN AUCTION, FOR THE PEOPLE
PARIS, 2025
Martin Margiela: Not an Auction, for the People was a Byronesque project held during Paris Fashion Week in March 2025, in which Kang played a central role. She was responsible for archiving and curating the Paris showroom — 150 pieces designed by Martin Margiela between 1989 and 2006, drawn from the personal collection of fashion executive Christina Ahlers, who worked closely with Margiela throughout his tenure. The sale was held in a Palais Royal apartment dressed entirely in white cotton sheeting — a setting that felt less like a commercial event and more like entering the work itself.
For Kang, Margiela has long been a touchstone: a designer who treated clothing as sculpture, as art object, as idea. Working intimately with this archive — handling pieces that existed at the boundary of fashion and fine art — was a natural extension of her own practice. The project was covered by Vogue, Dazed, ShowStudio, WWD, AnOther, and ASVOF, among others.
